Spring in2 Action – Week 3 of Buff Brazen Bunnies

Spring In2 Action

Week three! Half way there! Wow. That means in three more weeks I’m supposed to be able to do lots more pushups than I can right now.  That’s kind of scary.  Let’s see how I’ve done on my goals for this week, shall we?

1.  Running 3-4 days a week – Success.  I ran Thursday, Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday.  I wussed out on my long run and did 9 miles on the treadmill.  It was a good 9 miles, and it probably wouldn’t have been great if I ran outside.  It had snowed and it was windy.  Not an ideal way to get my head in the game.  I’m really trying to push myself on the treadmill so when I go outside I can hopefully come close to my inside pace.  I did mess with my incline on this run.  I alternated between 1.5 and 2.5 of an incline starting at mile 3 and changed every mile.  I *really* want my under 2:00 time on May 1st.  But I know that I have trouble really pushing myself to go faster when I run outside.  I have to just feel good about the run.

2. Nike Training Club – Fail.  I even told Ashley that I would do it on Sunday, and then I totally forgot.

3. 100 pushup challenge – Good on this one.  Though these pushups? They are hard! Today was week 4 day 1.  I don’t really feel like I’m getting stronger, but I must be because even though I’m having total #bodyfail in my last set, I’m able to get them done.

4. Water intake – Better than last week, but that’s only because I feel like I’m on the verge of getting sick, but T tells me that it’s just allergies.  So I’ve been drinking like a mad woman.

This next week looks to be more status quo.  I *really* want to get one NTC in this week.  Hopefully I can convince myself to get that 15 minutes in.  Also? I may be going on my 10-mile run Saturday with a new running friend.  She’s run most of the races I have and is planning on doing the half in Reno in May, but she hasn’t run in over a month.  Not sure she’ll make the whole 10 miles with me, but it pains me to see someone who hasn’t trained (even if they know better) try and accomplish a long run.  I want to feel good after those runs not be in pain.

Anyway.  My fellow Bunny, Bari, did pretty well this past week too.

Things that make us stronger

Literally.  As you may know I’ve been a part of The Sisterhood since its inception over a year ago.  I have participated in most of the challenges even though all of the challenges have been about weight loss and I don’t have any weight to lose.  But, so many times I have been inspired by others to keep on running.  Just to keep working towards bettering myself.  I’ve come a long way, let me tell you.  I’m at a point where I’m excited that I get to get on the treadmill and run 6 miles (which is on my training schedule for today).  Two years ago I might have known I was going to run, but I wouldn’t have run 6 miles or been looking forward to it.

The Sisterhood has a new challenge starting today.  It’s the Spring Fling.  It feels like spring here today.  What with the rain and clouds and cozy-like weather.  Spring can hang out in Northern Nevada for as long as it likes.

So about this new challenge.  We are teaming up.  I didn’t participate in the last team challenge because it was all about who was going to be the biggest loser.  I would be a hinderance to my team because I have nothing to lose.  So when the call came out for all those interested, I raised my hand high and said “ME!”, but only if there is a team with other non-losers.  (And I say that with respect.  The losers? Those who are losing weight?  They are awesome!)  So far it is me and Tobey.  We are trying to come up with a fun team name, but I’m creatively challenged, so hopefully Tobey can help us out.

Our first challenge starts next Monday.  It is completing the 30 Day Shred.  I did this last year when The Sisterhood first did it, and man did I hurt for the first 4 days.  But it was awesome.  I’ve been scared to go back to it though.  Not because it’s hard and you sweat a lot, because you do.  But because you don’t do any one thing for longer than 90 seconds.  This is a HUGE pro in many ways, but for me it was so hard to get back on the treadmill and just run for 30 minutes.  So I’m nervous.  I’m not sure I will have the time to do it every day in the month of March.  Team In Training has to be my priority and I don’t want to wear myself out by overdoing the exercise.  So, I will be participating, but I will only be doing it on days that I run and only after I run.  That way the hard mental part will be done with.  I may not be able to walk, but I’m sure that the Shred will make me stronger which will, in turn, help my running.  So wish us luck!

(Oh, I forgot to mention and I’m too lazy right now to go back and find all the info, but I did awesome in the Sisterhood Olympics!  I came away with some gold, silver, and bronze medals out of the deal!)

All in the Name of Charity – A challenge

Before I get to the challenge I want to talk a little about Team In Training(TNT) and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).  I am so excited to be a part of this amazing organization.  My uncle, Jimmie, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and his wife, my aunt, left such a sweet comment on my fundraising page.  My heart has grown infinitely over the past few months due to many things.  Most of them are personal, but know that my heart is 120% into raising AT LEAST my minimum requirement put forth by TNT and LLS.  (Did you know that at least 71% of every donation made to LLS goes to research or directly helping patients/patient’s families?) The more people that I talk to about TNT, the more people I find out have been affected by leukemia or lymphoma – some with happy endings and, unfortunately, some without.

I will be sending out letters to everyone I know that has not donated yet.  They may be in the form of emails or actual letters for some who may find it easier to donate by check.

So, on to the challenge I talked about.  It’s not a challenge to me.  My challenge is train hard to run the best 13.1 miles I can.  Okay, my challenge is also the fundraising, but that’s where YOU come in.

My challenge for you, and you, and you (and YOUR friends and YOUR family) is that I will shave my head (not BALD, but 98% of my hair will go away) if I AT LEAST meet my goal of $3000 by April 2nd.

But because T is not thrilled at all with the prospects of me lopping off all my hair, I’m compromising.  All those who donate between now and April 2nd will get a vote.  When you donate online there is a place to leave a comment.  Leave me a comment saying whether or not I should shave my head.  (I will include the voting info in my emails and letters also so those not donating online can still have a voice.)  The votes will be tallied on April 2nd.  The majority rules.

If the “yes, shave your head!!” votes win, I am hoping that my hair is long enough to donate it to Locks of Love (it must measure 10 inches in length by that point). My scalping will be videotaped and posted here and probably over at The Sisterhood so everyone who voted can appreciate the wonder of my (essentially) bald head.

To make it interesting and so I can get as much exposure as I can, I would appreciate everyone linking and posting and tweeting and sharing with as many people as you can.  For every donation of at least $30, your name will be entered into a random drawing at the end of the challenge for a $50 gift card to your choice of major retailer. (If you all are as awesome as I think you are, and I reach my goal before March 15th I may just have to come up with more ways for you to win or more prizes or something.)

The end of a challenge

Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans

Today marks the end of the Globetrotting Challenge over at The Sisterhood.  I was excited to participate in this challenge.  The challenge ran from November 9th through today, December 16th.  Nike+ makes it so easy to track mileage.  I originally sent a goal of 68 miles.  That allotted to 4 miles 3 days a week.  Well, you know what?  I smoked that goal. As of this afternoon’s run (that I have yet to do) of 10 miles (because I didn’t make it on the treadmill yesterday), I will have logged a total of 87 miles.  Can you believe that?  I can’t.  The month of November was my highest total miles for a given month ever; 71 miles.  I have many to thank for my awesome numbers.  For one, ChristieO.  In the beginning she was keeping me on my toes.  Then there is Lisa and Christy.  These ladies fell in love with running last month and were giving me a run for my money.  Can you say competition?  Their mileage and times were catching me!  I can’t have that, now can I?  So thanks, ladies for giving me the motivation to keep going and pushing myself.

I’m excited to continue running and finish out this year with the best year of running I’ve had ever.  Thanks to my sisters!!  I wonder what challenge they will have for us next.
